Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Lady Playing An Archlute by Jean-Baptiste Vanmour was sold in the True Connoisseurship: The Collection of Ezra & Cecile Zilkha auction at Sothebys in New York in November 2020. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 10,710.00 (€ 8,963.84) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Baptiste Vanmour achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Armenian women embroidering in an interior; Armenian women drinking coffee in an interior; Armenian interior with a sultan and his favourite; and Greek sailors merrymaking in an interior in December 2006 with an auction result of GBP 355,200.00 (€ 527,161.26).
