In July 2018 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Day Sale, which included the work 'The Gate of Persecution' at Ephesus, Turkey, with goat herders resting by the ruins by Jean-Baptiste Hilaire. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 9,375.00 (€ 10,511.44), 34% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Baptiste Hilaire achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Sultan Abd-ul Hamid I standing in front of a golden throne, a domed palace in the distance in January 2008 with an auction result of USD 157,000.00 (€ 105,788.02).

Oberer Schätzpreis um 34 % übertroffen

Im Juli 2018 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Masters Day Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit 'The Gate of Persecution' at Ephesus, Turkey, with goat herders resting by the ruins von Jean-Baptiste Hilaire zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 9.375,00 (€ 10.511,44) und damit 34% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean-Baptiste Hilaire erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Sultan Abd-ul Hamid I standing in front of a golden throne, a domed palace in the distance im Januar 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 157.000,00 (€ 105.788,02).
