Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A desert landscape with travellers passing through the Valley of the Tombs, Palmyra by Jean-Baptiste Hilaire was sold in the Old Masters Day Sale auction at Christies in London in December 2018. The price achieved of GBP 93,750.00 (€ 104,445.81) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 80,000.00 – 120,000.00. Other works by Jean-Baptiste Hilaire have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in January 2008 the work Portrait of Sultan Abd-ul Hamid I standing in front of a golden throne, a domed palace in the distance was auctioned for USD 157,000.00 (€ 105,788.02).
