Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In November 2008 Sothebys in London held the auction European Paintings including The Orientalist Sale, Symbolism and the Poetic Vision and Spanish Painting, which included the work French L'Ambassade Russe À Büyükdere by Jean-Baptiste Hilaire. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 12,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 13,750.00 (€ 16,624.78). Admittedly, works by Jean-Baptiste Hilaire have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Sultan Abd-ul Hamid I standing in front of a golden throne, a domed palace in the distance in January 2008 with an auction result of USD 157,000.00 (€ 105,788.02).
