Auction result misses estimated price range
In September 2003 a collector was able to acquire the work The Ladies' Flower Garden: Eight Plates by Jane Wells Loudon for USD 1,195 (€ 724). This price was achieved in the auction The House Sale at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 2,500 – 3,000 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by Jane Wells Loudon have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Ladies' Flower Garden of Ornamental Annuals. London: William Smith, 1840. 4° (270 x 201mm). 48 hand-coloured lithographic plates with over 300 figures of plants by Day & Haghe after Mrs. Loudon. (Occasional light spotting, a few plates with small nick in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 3,760 (€ 6
