Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Books, a globe and musical instruments on a draped table by Jan Vermeulen was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 22,500.00 (€ 25,106.54). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan Vermeulen - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Vanitas Still Life: Skull With An Ivy Wreath, A Crown, Money Bags, An Hourglass And A Book Of Sheet Music, Pearls And Other Objects On A Stone Plinth, which sold at auction in February 2013 for USD 98,500.00 (€ 75,311.57).
