In September 2005 Christies in Amsterdam held the auction PICTURES WATERCOLOURS AND DRAWINGS, which included the work In the cafe by Jan Rijlaarsdam. The »bidding war« ended at EUR 3,120.00 56% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan Rijlaarsdam - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Flowergirl, which sold at auction in June 2001 for NLG 18,800.00 (€ 9,036.16).

Im September 2005 führte Christies in Amsterdam die Auktion PICTURES WATERCOLOURS AND DRAWINGS durch, in der auch die Arbeit In the cafe von Jan Rijlaarsdam zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von EUR 3.120,00 und damit 56% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Jan Rijlaarsdam mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A Flowergirl beobachtet, die im Juni 2001 für NLG 18.800,00 (€ 9.036,16) versteigert wurde.
