This artwork by Jan Mortel achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2001. In the OLD MASTER PICTURES auction, the work Peaches, plums, grapes on the vine and other fruit in a basket, with a snail, a dragonfly and a mouse, by a rock sold for GBP 97,250.00 (€ 154,755.39) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 50,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jan Mortel; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Peaches, plums, apricots, grapes, pears, blackberries, sheafs of corn, chestnuts, walnuts, medlars, cherries and a pomegranate with a snail, a butterfly, a grasshopper and a caterpillar by a plinth sold at auction in December 2005 with the realized price of GBP 120,000.00 (€ 174,173.28).
