In December 2001 Christies in London held the auction Old Master Pictures, which included the work Portrait of Gudula de Kies van Wissen, née van der Wielen (1650-1680), aged 21, half-length, in a black dress with a lace collar and white sleeves with black ribbons by Jan de Braij. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 41,125.00 (€ 67,192.55), 37% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan de Braij - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Violin Player Accompanying Two Young Singers, which sold at auction in July 2015 for GBP 125,000.00 (€ 177,208.02).
