Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price

The work At the piano by James McBey was worth GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,791.18) to a buyer in December 2012. This price was achieved in the auction Peter Langan: A Life with Art at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James McBey - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Dacie, which sold at auction in September 2020 for GBP 25,000.00 (€ 27,566.56).
