Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The old Toll House and bridge, Grange Road, Bermondsey (illustrated); and four other views of Bermondsey including: The Bridge House, Jacob's Island; Parker's Row; Longwalk; and Winchester Street by James Lawson Stewart was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2010. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 600.00 – 800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 625.00 (€ 746.87) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James Lawson Stewart - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Entrance to the cloisters from Dean's Yard, Westminster (illustrated); Bell tower of St. Stephen's Chapel, Westminster; Courtyard of the Deanery, Westminster; The ancient gateway, Dean's Yard; and Judge Jeffries' House, Duke Street, Westminster, which sold at auction in November 2010 for GBP 1,625.00 (€ 1,941.87).
