Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Library, Lambeth Palace (illustrated); and three other views of Lambeth Palace including: The old gateway; The Lollards' Tower; and A corner of the Palace viewed from Bishops' Walk by James Lawson Stewart was sold in the Christie's Interiors auction at Christies in London in November 2010. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 700.00 – 1,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 750.00 (€ 896.25) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James Lawson Stewart - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Entrance to the cloisters from Dean's Yard, Westminster (illustrated); Bell tower of St. Stephen's Chapel, Westminster; Courtyard of the Deanery, Westminster; The ancient gateway, Dean's Yard; and Judge Jeffries' House, Duke Street, Westminster, which sold at auction in November 2010 for GBP
