Auction result well in line with expectations
The work New Inn, Strand, in 1804 (illustrated); Pits Head Mews; Greystoke Place; Entrance to Hogarth's School of Art; and Old Houses in Neville's Court, Holborn by James Lawson Stewart was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2010. The price achieved of GBP 562.50 (€ 672.19) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 500.00 – 700.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James Lawson Stewart - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Entrance to the cloisters from Dean's Yard, Westminster (illustrated); Bell tower of St. Stephen's Chapel, Westminster; Courtyard of the Deanery, Westminster; The ancient gateway, Dean's Yard; and Judge Jeffries' House, Duke Street, Westminster, which sold at auction in November 2010 for GBP 1,625.00 (€ 1,941.87).
