Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Rocky Cove With Fisherfolk On The Shore, An Artist Sketching In The Foreground by Jacques d'Arthois was auctioned at Christies in New York in April 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 70,000.00 – 90,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 62,500.00 (€ 54,628.09). Other works by Jacques d'Arthois have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in July 2014 by the work A wooded landscape with figures and a dog on a path, with a river and a castle in the distance at GBP 58,750.00 (€ 74,102.22).
