Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Grapes, chestnuts and a cantaloupe with a roemer and a façon de Venise wine glass on a stone ledge by Jacob van Walscapelle was sold in the Old Masters auction at Christies in New York in April 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 300,000.00 – 500,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 343,500.00 (€ 315,282.24) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jacob van Walscapelle - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A peony, an iris, a poppy, anemones, morning glory and other flowers, in a glass vase, with a caterpillar, a beetle and other insects, on a stone ledge, which sold at auction in July 2014 for GBP 722,500.00 (€ 911,299.66).
