Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Garland Of Flowers And Fruit With A Snail And Butterflies by Jacob van Walscapelle was sold in the Old Master Paintings Part I auction at Christies in New York in January 2014. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 300,000.00 – 500,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 341,000.00 (€ 252,592.59) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jacob van Walscapelle - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A peony, an iris, a poppy, anemones, morning glory and other flowers, in a glass vase, with a caterpillar, a beetle and other insects, on a stone ledge, which sold at auction in July 2014 for GBP 722,500.00 (€ 911,299.66).
