Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2006 Christies in London held the auction Important Old Master Pictures Evening Sale, which included the work Peaches, grapes, walnuts and wild blackberrries in a basket on a stone plinth and roses, morning glory and carnations in a stone urn, by a window, with a butterfly by Jacob van Walscapelle. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 433,600.00 (€ 643,516.68) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by Jacob van Walscapelle have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in July 2014 the work A peony, an iris, a poppy, anemones, morning glory and other flowers, in a glass vase, with a caterpillar, a beetle and other insects, on a stone ledge was auctioned for GBP 722,500.00 (€ 911,299.66).
