Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Unknown by Ito Shinsui was auctioned at Bonhams in New York in September last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,500.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,020.00 (€ 1,042.62). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ito Shinsui achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Taikyo (Before the mirror [Red geisha)|AID524033] in December 2021 with an auction result of GBP 52,920.00 (€ 63,122.46).
