Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Desert of Mihara (Mihara no sabuaku) by Ito Shinsui was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 504.00 (€ 586.42). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ito Shinsui achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Taikyo (Before the mirror [Red geisha)|AID524033] in December 2021 with an auction result of GBP 52,920.00 (€ 63,122.46).
