Upper estimate price exceeded by 42 %.
In June 2020 Sothebys in New York held the auction 19th Century European Art, which included the work Queen Esther by Hugues Merle. The »bidding war« ended at USD 21,250.00 (€ 18,920.84), 42% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hugues Merle achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work French Hamlet And Ophelia in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 312,500.00 (€ 267,780.63).
