The »bidding war« ended at USD 106,250.00 (€ 95,419.85), 33% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Hugues Merle - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work French Hamlet And Ophelia, which sold at auction in May 2018 for USD 312,500.00 (€ 267,780.63).

Die Arbeit French mother And Child von Hugues Merle wurde im Mai 2016 in der Auktion 19th Century European Art bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 106.250,00 (€ 95.419,85) und damit 33% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Hugues Merle mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit French Hamlet And Ophelia beobachtet, die im Mai 2018 für USD 312.500,00 (€ 267.780,63) versteigert wurde.
