The work Portrait of Arthur Hill, 2nd Marquess of Downshire (1753-1801), small full-length, in a yellow frock coat and breeches, his left arm resting on a cane, with a coach and four beyond, in a landscape by Hugh Douglas Hamilton was sold in the Lyons Demesne Works of Art from The Collection ofThe Late Dr. Tony Ryan auction at Christies in London in July 2011. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 300,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 337,250.00 (€ 387,044.83). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Hugh Douglas Hamilton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Double Portrait of Mary, Countess of Erne, with her daughter Lady Caroline Crichton, later Lady Wharncliffe, full-length, seated, the former in a brown dress with a yellow sash, wearing a large straw hat, with a mandolin beside her, the latter showin, which sold at auction in May 2004 for GBP 542,850.00 (€ 814
