Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Three-Quarter-Length, Holding A Book, Mount Vesuvius Beyond by Hugh Douglas Hamilton was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 8,440.15) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hugh Douglas Hamilton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Double Portrait of Mary, Countess of Erne, with her daughter Lady Caroline Crichton, later Lady Wharncliffe, full-length, seated, the former in a brown dress with a yellow sash, wearing a large straw hat, with a mandolin beside her, the latter showin in May 2004 with an auction result of GBP 542,850.00 (€ 81
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Double Portrait of Mary, Countess of Erne, with her daughter Lady Caroline Crichton, later Lady Wharncliffe, full-length, seated, the former in a brown dress with a yellow sash, wearing a large straw hat, with a mandolin beside her, the latter showin im Mai 2004 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 542.850,00 (€ 814.474,95).
