Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A figure study with an angel (recto) (illustrated) and mother and child (verso) by Henry Wallis was auctioned at Christies in London in September 2014, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 700.00 – 1,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 187.50 (€ 240.83). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Wallis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dr Johnson At Cave'S, The Publisher. Johnson, Too Ragged To Appear At Cave'S Table, Has A Plate Of Victuals Sent To Him Behind The Screen. Vide Boswell in November 2008 with an auction result of GBP 39,650.00 (€ 47,939.83).
Johnson, Too Ragged To Appear At Cave'S Table, Has A Plate Of Victuals Sent To Him Behind The Screen. Vide Boswell im November 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 39.650,00 (€ 47.939,83).
