This artwork by Henry Spicer achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2002. In the OBJECTS OF VERTU AND PORTRAIT MINIATURES & FOB SEALS auction, the work A gentleman, facing right in a bright blue coat, cream-coloured waistcoat, frilled cravat, powdered hair en queue sold for GBP 1,410.00 (€ 2,208.08) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 750.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Spicer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Ozias Humphry, R.A. (1742-1810), in profile to the left in claret coloured velvet cloak, white stock, clasping a book close to his chest in his right hand in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 17,625.00 (€ 28,807.37).
(1742-1810), in profile to the left in claret coloured velvet cloak, white stock, clasping a book close to his chest in his right hand im November 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 17.625,00 (€ 28.807,37).
