This artwork by Henry Spicer achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2004. In the IMPORTANT GOLD BOXES,OBJECTS OF VERTU & PORTRAIT MINIATURES auction, the work A gentleman, in blue coat with gold buttons and black collar, white waistcoat and cravat, powdered hair sold for GBP 1,553.50 (€ 2,330.82) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Spicer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Ozias Humphry, R.A. (1742-1810), in profile to the left in claret coloured velvet cloak, white stock, clasping a book close to his chest in his right hand in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 17,625.00 (€ 28,807.37).
(1742-1810), in profile to the left in claret coloured velvet cloak, white stock, clasping a book close to his chest in his right hand im November 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 17.625,00 (€ 28.807,37).
