This artwork by Henry Pember Smith achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in February 2019. In the 19th Century European Art Online auction, the work Venetian Canal sold for USD 10,000.00 (€ 8,788.12) - well above the upper estimate of USD 5,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Henry Pember Smith; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Morning at Hamilton--Bermuda sold at auction in October 2000 with the realized price of USD 10,575.00 (€ 12,461.70).

Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Henry Pember Smith; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Morning at Hamilton--Bermuda im Oktober 2000 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 10.575,00 (€ 12.461,70).
