In May 2021 Bonhams in New York held the auction American Art, which included the work Return from the Cross by Henry Ossawa Tanner. The »bidding war« ended at USD 237,812.50 (€ 195,024.19), 59% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Henry Ossawa Tanner; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Nicodemus Coming to Christ sold at auction in May 2008 with the realized price of USD 541,000.00 (€ 347,686.38).

Im Mai 2021 führte Bonhams in New York die Auktion American Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Return from the Cross von Henry Ossawa Tanner zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 237.812,50 (€ 195.024,19) und damit 59% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Henry Ossawa Tanner; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Nicodemus Coming to Christ im Mai 2008 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 541.000,00 (€ 347.686,38).
