Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Returning Home, Bedfordshire (Illustrated); And Mother And Her Child After A Short Walk by Henry John Sylvester Stannard was sold in the British and Continental Watercolours auction at Christies in London in November 2006. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,640.00 (€ 3,920.48) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Henry John Sylvester Stannard - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Playing marbles, which sold at auction in March 2002 for GBP 5,875.00 (€ 9,604.08).
