In July 2004 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Watercolours including Original, which included the work Cattle crossing a ford at Fordingbridge, Hampshire by Henry Charles Fox. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 956.00 (€ 1,444.73), 59% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Henry Charles Fox; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A shepherd driving sheep down a country lane with the harvesters beyond sold at auction in May 2000 with the realized price of GBP 1,762.50 (€ 2,828.16).
