The work Cherries in a basket with grapes, peaches, pears, apples and a watermelon on a ledge by Gustavus Hamilton was sold in the The Sunday Sale auction at Christies in London in September 2008. It achieved a price of GBP 3,250.00 (€ 4,109.30), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 63%. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Gustavus Hamilton; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Mr and Mrs John Kirwan; he, facing right in gold-bordered blue coat and waistcoat, frilled lace cravat, powdered bag wig; and she, facing left in purple dress with lace-bordered fichu, fur stole, pearl necklace, gauze veil falling from her dark upswe sold at auction in April 2002 with the realized price of GBP 4,465.00 (€ 7,224.25).
