The »bidding war« ended at USD 200,000.00 (€ 183,570.45), 33% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Gustave Le Gray have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Bateaux quittant le port du Havre (navires de la flotte de Napoleon III), 1856-1857 in February 2016 with an auction result of USD 965,000.00 (€ 887,927.86).

Die Arbeit Troncs d’Arbres, Fontainebleau von Gustave Le Gray wurde im April 2017 in der Auktion The Odyssey of Collecting: Photographs from Joy of Giving Something Foundation, Part 1 bei Phillips in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 200.000,00 (€ 183.570,45) und damit 33% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Gustave Le Gray auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Bateaux quittant le port du Havre (navires de la flotte de Napoleon III), 1856-1857 im Februar 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 965.000,00 (€ 887.927,86).
