Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Minerva Directing The Construction of Athens; And The Contest of Minerva And Arachne by Giuseppe Cades was sold in the Old Master and 19th Century Drawings including Andrea del auction at Christies in London in July 2005. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 15,600.00 (€ 22,627.65) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Giuseppe Cades have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Briseis Leaving Achilles' Tent in January 2008 with an auction result of USD 253,000.00 (€ 170,473.69).
