Upper estimate price exceeded by 98 %.
This artwork by Girolamo da Carpi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2011. In the Important Old Master Paintings & Sculpture auction, the work The Holy Family sold for USD 158,500.00 (€ 115,566.90) - well above the upper estimate of USD 80,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Girolamo da Carpi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Bindo Altoviti (1491-1556) in December 2008 with an auction result of GBP 3,065,250.00 (€ 3,219,404.39).
