The »bidding war« ended at GBP 19,975.00 (€ 32,636.38), 66% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Giovanni Paolo Castelli have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A melon, peaches, plums, quinces and grapes by a tree; and Grapes, apples and peaches in a wooded landscape in October 2006 with an auction result of USD 192,000.00 (€ 150,317.08).

Die Arbeit Figs, grapes, peaches and pears on a pewter plate, with a glass of wine and a biscuit on a ledge, a bottle of wine behind von Giovanni Paolo Castelli wurde im Dezember 2001 in der Auktion OLD MASTER PICTURES bei Christies in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 19.975,00 (€ 32.636,38) und damit 66% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Giovanni Paolo Castelli auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A melon, peaches, plums, quinces and grapes by a tree; and Grapes, apples and peaches in a wooded landscape im Oktober 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 192.000,00 (€ 150.317,08).
