Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of the artist as Mars by Gian Lorenzo Bernini was sold in the Old Master and British Paintings Day Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2016. The price achieved of GBP 104,500.00 (€ 124,168.61) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 80,000.00 – 120,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gian Lorenzo Bernini - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Christ Mocked, which sold at auction in February 2013 for USD 398,500.00 (€ 304,686.90).
