Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Design for a funerary medallion with Death standing by a sarcophagus by Gian Lorenzo Bernini was sold in the Old Master & British Drawings Including Works from the Collection of Jean Bonna auction at Christies in New York in January 2020. It changed hands for a price of USD 75,000.00 (€ 67,610.20) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 60,000.00 – 80,000.00. Admittedly, works by Gian Lorenzo Bernini have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Christ Mocked in February 2013 with an auction result of USD 398,500.00 (€ 304,686.90).

Die Arbeit Design for a funerary medallion with Death standing by a sarcophagus von Gian Lorenzo Bernini wurde im Januar 2020 in der Auktion Old Master & British Drawings Including Works from the Collection of Jean Bonna bei Christies in New York versteigert. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von USD 75.000,00 (€ 67.610,20) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 60.000,00 – 80.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Gian Lorenzo Bernini auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Christ Mocked im Februar 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 398.500,00 (€ 304.686,90).
