Despite a disappointment, a good price for Gian Lorenzo Bernini
In February 2013 a collector was able to acquire the work Christ Mocked by Gian Lorenzo Bernini for USD 398,500.00 (€ 304,686.90). This price was achieved in the auction Important Old Master Paintings and Sculpture at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 400,000.00 – 600,000.00 set by the auction house. Despite this disappointing result, Christ Mocked is the most expensive artwork by Gian Lorenzo Bernini that we have observed at auction so far.
