This artwork by Giovanni Lanza achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in September 2011. In the Nineteen to Now including Topographical Observations auction, the work A view of Naples with the Vesuvius in the background; and The Temple of Neptune and the Temple of Hera, Paestum sold for EUR 4,750.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 2,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Giovanni Lanza; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Parthenon, Athens, With Men In The Foreground Dressed In Oriental Costumes; And The Temple Of Olympian Zeus With The Acropolis In The Background, Athens sold at auction in January 2015 with the realized price of USD 10,000.00 (€ 8,857.40).
