Auction result well in line with expectations
In April 2009 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master, Modern and Contemporary Prints, which included the work Frontispiece, With Statue Of Minerva; Hadrianeum In The Piazza Di Peitra; Pyramid Of Caius Cestius; Temple Of Portunus; And Temple Of The Sibyl, Tivoli (H. 2, 32, 35, 47, 62) by Giovanni Battista Piranesi. It changed hands for a price of GBP 4,750.00 (€ 5,307.71) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Giovanni Battista Piranesi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An architectural fantasy: the entrance to a palace with a monumental staircase by a fountain in January 2001 with an auction result of USD 358,000.00 (€ 384,615.38).

Im April 2009 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Master, Modern and Contemporary Prints durch, in der auch die Arbeit Frontispiece, With Statue Of Minerva; Hadrianeum In The Piazza Di Peitra; Pyramid Of Caius Cestius; Temple Of Portunus; And Temple Of The Sibyl, Tivoli (H. 2, 32, 35, 47, 62) von Giovanni Battista Piranesi zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 4.750,00 (€ 5.307,71) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Giovanni Battista Piranesi erzielen.
