In October 2017 Christies in New York held the auction Old Masters, which included the work Portrait of Pope Clement X (1590-1676), bust-length, in papal robes by Giovanni Battista Gaulli. The »bidding war« ended at USD 75,000.00 (€ 64,388.74), 25% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Giovanni Battista Gaulli have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of A Lady, Head And Shoulders in January 2014 with an auction result of USD 569,000.00 (€ 421,481.48).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 25 % übertroffen
Im Oktober 2017 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Old Masters durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of Pope Clement X (1590-1676), bust-length, in papal robes von Giovanni Battista Gaulli zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 75.000,00 (€ 64.388,74) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Giovanni Battista Gaulli auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait Of A Lady, Head And Shoulders im Januar 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 569.000,00 (€ 421.481,48).
