Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Captured by Confederates by Gilbert Gaul was auctioned at Christies in New York in November 2000, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 29,375.00 (€ 33,787.67). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gilbert Gaul - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Song Of Victory, which sold at auction in May 2010 for USD 146,500.00 (€ 118,441.26).
