Upper estimate price exceeded by 88 %.
This artwork by Gerrit van Honthorst achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2011. In the Old Master and British Paintings Day Sale auction, the work Portrait Of A Lady, Half Length, Wearing A Red Cloak sold for GBP 15,000.00 (€ 17,214.74) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gerrit van Honthorst achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Merry Group Behind A Balustrade With A Violin And A Lute Player in January 2014 with an auction result of USD 7,557,000.00 (€ 5,597,777.78).
