Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2018 Christies in London held the auction Important Old Master Paintings from The Eric Albada Jelgersma Collection: Evening sale, which included the work Allegory of love by Gerrit van Honthorst. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 500,000.00 – 800,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 548,750.00 (€ 611,356.17) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Gerrit van Honthorst have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Merry Group Behind A Balustrade With A Violin And A Lute Player in January 2014 with an auction result of USD 7,557,000.00 (€ 5,597,777.78).
