Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A young man holding a burning candle and a scamorza cheese, a fiasco bottle beside him by Gerrit van Honthorst was sold in the Old Masters Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in December 2020. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 275,000.00 (€ 307,199.51) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gerrit van Honthorst achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Merry Group Behind A Balustrade With A Violin And A Lute Player in January 2014 with an auction result of USD 7,557,000.00 (€ 5,597,777.78).

Die Arbeit A young man holding a burning candle and a scamorza cheese, a fiasco bottle beside him von Gerrit van Honthorst wurde im Dezember 2020 in der Auktion Old Masters Evening Sale bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 250.000,00 – 350.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 275.000,00 (€ 307.199,51) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Gerrit van Honthorst erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Merry Group Behind A Balustrade With A Violin And A Lute Player im Januar 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 7.557.000,00 (€ 5.597.777,78).
