Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Sibyl by George Tooker was sold in the American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture auction at Sothebys in New York in May 2008. The price achieved of USD 181,000.00 (€ 116,323.91) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 150,000.00 – 250,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Tooker - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Coney Island, which sold at auction in December 2002 for USD 427,500.00 (€ 407,725.32).

Die Arbeit Sibyl von George Tooker wurde im Mai 2008 in der Auktion American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 181.000,00 (€ 116.323,91) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 150.000,00 – 250.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von George Tooker mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Coney Island beobachtet, die im Dezember 2002 für USD 427.500,00 (€ 407.725,32) versteigert wurde.
