Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by George Richmond achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in May 2014. In the A Green and Pleasant Land: Two Centuries of British Landscape Painting auction, the work Study Of A Cedar Tree sold for GBP 6,250.00 (€ 7,681.45) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Richmond achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Sir Moses Montefiore (1784-1885), three-quarter-length, seated at a desk, in a black suit and cap in May 2005 with an auction result of GBP 96,000.00 (€ 141,726.13).
