Auction result misses estimated price range
In December 2012 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of a young man, three-quarter length, reading on a terrace by George Richmond for GBP 687.50 (€ 847.88). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master & Early British Drawings & Watercolours at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Richmond achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Sir Moses Montefiore (1784-1885), three-quarter-length, seated at a desk, in a black suit and cap in May 2005 with an auction result of GBP 96,000.00 (€ 141,726.13).
