Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Head study of Virginia Pattle for 'Diana and Apollo' by George Frederick Watts was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 5,625.00 (€ 6,175.88) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Frederick Watts achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hope in June 2001 with an auction result of GBP 773,750.00 (€ 1,285,352.70).
