It achieved a price of GBP 21,420.00 (€ 25,579.28), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 43%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Frederick Watts achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hope in June 2001 with an auction result of GBP 773,750.00 (€ 1,285,352.70).

Die Arbeit The Open Door von George Frederick Watts kam im Juli letzten Jahres bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 21.420,00 (€ 25.579,28) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 43%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von George Frederick Watts erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Hope im Juni 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 773.750,00 (€ 1.285.352,70).
